Electro-voice RE200 is a FET condenser microphone featuring an EQ curve known as a “Continuous Presence Rise.”
Its frequency response starts to dip at 300Hz, stays mostly flat until 3kHz, and then shows two distinct boosts (+10–12dB) at 5kHz and 8kHz. Above 13kHz, the high-frequency response drops off steeply.
The reduced low-frequency response allows the mic to be placed close to a sound source without causing an excessive low-end buildup, typically due to the proximity effect. Electro-Voice recommends the mic for use with drum overheads, hi-hats, acoustic guitars, and string instruments.
Unlike many other 12V-powered mics, it features a true condenser capsule instead of an electret. The microphone’s design also includes a DC-DC converter that ensures the capsule remains consistently charged, regardless of the power source, providing stable performance.
